Energy storage

Energy storage is very important for an autarkic home.

The purpose of energy storage is to have energy available when there is too little natural energy available. An self-contained house needs an energy storage that covers the energy demand of the house for several days. That amount partly depends

 on the number of people and the activities taking place in that house.

The simplest option for storing electricity is a rechargeable battery or accumulator. But not all forms of energy are electricity. It can also be heat or even cold that is stored in a special vessel. A gas in a pressure vessel is also stored energy. That gas can be methane from the biodigester, but also hydrogen made from water.

With every storage there is the possibility that energy will flow away. This differs per type of energy storage.

The risk with different forms of energy storage is different.

These are all aspects that we must take into account in our research. For the time being we will use existing storage methods.

We will certainly investigate the storage methods to make a home self-sufficient. We initially think of a heat reservoir in the ground. Everything we research will be available under free open source licenses.
